Its that time of year again. The time of year when everyone in America is either loving the IRS or hating them. Me, I am loving them this year. Well, except that I finally got my income tax TODAY, when I was supposed to have it last Wednesday (why do you pay more for a "Refund Anticipation Check" that doesnt show up until AFTER your mom AND friend, who both did them after you, at the same place, got theirs a day before you? Can someone explain that?). Anyway, today is a day of "AHHHH. Breathing!" YAY! I am getting everything caught back up, fixed, payed, and a new car. One that is REALLY needed.
Has anyone ever tried to fit 4 kids and two adults into a ford Taurus? It sucks, to say the least. Ever driven 300 miles in the middle seat because you are the only person in the car old enough and will fit? It isnt pretty. Really uncomfortable. You end up leaning on your 10 year old because you are trying to stay away from your extra large husbands flying elbows. All that gets you is a stiff back and a crooked spine. Maybe some muscle stiffness, but I havent decided if that is from the car or the heavy snow that I was shoveling. Thats what happens when you decide to borrow moms car until your income taxes come in (sugar in the gas tank, and a failing tranny, catalytic converter, all at once, killed my last car), instead of just outright getting it with the loan that only gets you a "decent running, decent condition" car. NOPE. Been there, done that. So sick of POS "get me now" cars. So, we relied on my mommys love for us :) That was 6 months ago. YAY! Comfort AND the knowledge that I dont have to explain every ding and scratch that happens for whatever reason!
AHHH. Today is a good day. Today my bank roll just increased by, well, a large %. Yesterday I was a negative $150, today I am a positive, well, I can say this, but it is gonna piss alot of people off, so I'll just say its almost what I used to make in 6 months right after high school. Its alot. I haven't ever seen this much money in one fair go, and I sure haven't seen it in my hands. I guess that down payment is gonna be alot more than I planned. I'll say this- Half of that check is going on a car. A sweet, good running, nicer than I have had in a few years car. So excited! Going to the bank today, yeah!
Anyway. This was more of a "what is the best and cheapest way to reorganize 6 people in a 3 bedroom, teeny house?" Ideas please?
All of the dressers have fallen apart, I have the only one, it was my grandfathers, and is currently serving me and the beast. We have shelves, but those are not my idea of "put away", so I know that dressers are #1. I have a sorting system for clothes. As I wash them, I am getting rid of tons of old ones that people seem to think I need above anyone else. I dont. I have 3 girls. I havent had to buy them more than one or two outfits every couple of months EVER. Everyone else clothes them. A bag here, a bag there. Im lucky in that my friend has a daughter a couple years older, and she gives me some really nice and cute clothes for my oldest. But. That does not mean that I want you to keep bringing bags upon bags of baby clothes for me to sort through so that I can find one or two things that fit. Or are decent and not stained. I have started smiling, and taking them to the different charities around town. Needing to make another trip as soon as I get my new SUV! (I cant wait to have room, can you tell?)
Then we move onto the fact that I have 4 kids in two rooms. There isnt enough room for their toys in their rooms as there is 3 beds in one, and my sons room is also the only space to store dirty laundry in the whole house. Their toys are in my kitchen/dining room/office, and in the living room. It makes for me cleaning them at least 9 times a day. I want one area. I dont even care which one. Just one area.
Then. We move onto the lack of closets. I have 2 walk ins, and a linen closet. Thats it. No coat closet, utility, nothing. So, I need to keep 3 kids stuff in one, mine, the beasts, and probably the babies in the other. I also need to find things that way. I have a coat rack by the front door, but I need something that isnt a box for shoes right there. Something to get them into a decent looking order. More hooks too, probably. The coat rack looks a bit overloaded.
Then. My kitchen. I have a pantry. It is full. No more room. I have 5 big cabinets on the top, 4 on the bottom. 4 little cabinets. Still not enough damn room for my dishes and food and whatever other storage I need. When I go shopping, I have to shop in accordance to what I can fit, not how much to spend. I can fit $280 worth of food a week, roughly. I always end up with tons of things on my counter, in the garage, and stuffed wherever. I have to keep alot of food on hand, has anyone ever seen what 4 kids will do to a food bill? Where one can of spagetti sauce will feed most families, I need 2. Where one pound of hamburger will make meatloaf for a whole family, I need two. Everything is doubled to that of a normal 4 person family. That is also because of my beast and my son. They are not lightweights by any means. Then we go into my cousins who are basically starving every time they come around (which is quite often lately). Add 3 hungry teenagers into the mix, and it doubles again. Needless to say, I go shopping alot. And its not like I buy small portions, I go to Sams Club every other week. I hit that store before any others. I also have 3 nephews and bundle of neighborhood kids running all over in the summer and on weekends. Its outrageous.
My bathroom. 1 shower, 6 people. 4 of them girls. As a woman, I am ashamed to say that I dont get a shower everyday. I cant. There isnt time, babysitters for two monster babies when the kids are at school, and if I turn the water on at 5am, the babies wake up. What is that all about? Anyway, the one downstairs in is a half bath. I need a place in there to get all the crap off my sink. I have 2 shelves and a medicine cabinet, but there still isnt room. OH YEAH! My dryer died yesterday, so I was stringing socks and towels all over in there yesterday and last night. I will say one thing- the fan on my heater running all night dries them semi quickly.
Thats it for now. Need to get some form of a game plan. I do so hate it when everything starts falling apart. Income tax is how we survive through the year. Gets everything caught back up.
How many people use their income tax for fun things? I cant. Too busy catching back up most years.
